    Clarification on Instalment Option
Learners’ fees must be paid directly into the SEWAFRICA bank account on the first day of the month. Fees will be payable in advance, starting on the 1st of February 2026 and finishing on the 1st of November 2026. A student who registers later than 1st of February 2026 will still be liable for the full annual fees, whether or not they attended all the classes. Example: a student registering on the 26th of February will be required to pay R 6,000 registration fee plus the fees from 1st of February 2026 R 3,269 (total R 9,269) before they may attend class, the next payment will be due on the 1st of March.

    Policy for Withdrawal from Course

If a student is unable to continue their studies at SEWAFRICA for whatever reason the student must give written notification of one full calendar month (one full calendar months’ notice means that notice is received on the 1st working day of the month). Please note that the payment will still be due for the months’ notice period as explained below. If notification is not received in writing the student will still be liable for the fees and no monies will be refunded, regardless of whether the student attended classes of not.

    Example:

If written notice is given on the 1st of July 2026 and the fees were up to date on the 1st of July 2026, then no further payments will be due.

However, if written notice is received after the 1st working day of the month (2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc) then the final payment will be made on the first day of the month following the notice. So, if the notification is received on the 3rd of July the final payment will be due on the 1st of August 2026.
As the person responsible for payment of the fees.

Work Experience The changing face of education in the country requires that students have a workplace experience that relates to the skills and knowledge gained in the classroom environment. The education sector recognises that a lack of work experience is an obstacle for students making the transition from being a student to having a successful career. Many students graduate and struggle to find employment because they do not have work experience on their CV. With that in mind, we require all students to find a placement for 3 months work experience in their chosen future career. Students are being told about it in the beginning of the year, so that they can make the necessary arrangements to go on work experience. We are positive that the 3 months work experience added to their CV will give them an advantage over other graduates. We also believe that by the students selecting where they go for their work experience, they will select the placement that suits their location and career interest. Students can apply for a placement at a retail store, as an intern to a fashion designer or any other fashion related career pathway of their choosing. Students would still be required to come in to SEWAFRICA for 2 days each week to continue academic work. The remaining 3 days would be spent in the selected workplace. Fees would remain unchanged for the duration of the workplace experience.

I acknowledge that I understand the instalment system and hereby agree to make a payment into the SEWAFRICA bank account each month starting on the 1st of February 2026 and ending on the 1st of November 2026. This will be in settlement of the fees, excluding registration, due to SEWAFRICA. I understand that if the payment is not made and proof of payment sent to the college on the second day of the month, in advance, then the student will be suspended on the 2nd of the month.

The reference on the deposit must be the student name – first and surname and/or student number.

    Industrial Machine Utilisation Procedures

You will be allocated a specific industrial sewing machine to use for the year. This is the only industrial sewing machine that you can use. If there is something wrong with your machine, you will be allocated 1 of the spare machines to use until yours has been repaired.

You will “share” the machine with SEWAFRICA’s part time students that will use the machine for a few Saturdays of the year.

You need to provide your own:

    • Industrial sewing machine bobbin • Industrial sewing machine bobbin case • Industrial sewing machine needles (size will depend on the fabric you are using) • Industrial sewing machine needle clamp screw • Industrial sewing machine presser foot • Industrial sewing machine presser foot screw • Industrial sewing machine zip foot • Industrial sewing machine invisible zip foot • Screwdriver for the above • Tweezers

As a result of negligence on the part of SEWAFRICA’s full time students, SEWAFRICA will no longer be solely responsible for the cost of repairs to the machines during the year. For example, students are not careful when inserting screws into the various parts of the machine, among other things. When the screw is not inserted straight, then the thread of the screw gets worn and no longer functions. As a result, the entire needle bar needs to be replaced.

Each student using a machine is required to pay a R300 deposit for the use of the industrial machine during the year. When a machine requires repair, the cost of the repair will be taken from that R300. The cost will be split 2 ways:

    - 1st year student - SEWAFRICA

At the end of the year, if there is still money remaining, the balance will be split among the 2 parties using the machine.

Storage Box, Padlocks and Keys Explained

Students need to pay R150 Refundable deposit for the Machine storage box.

Each student needs 4 padlocks with which to secure the sewing machine that they will use for the year during practical lectures.

The padlocks should be the “long shank” variety. The shank should be between 6cm and 8cm long. The shank should be between 2mm and 4mm thick to ensure that they fit through the holes in the storage box which will be given to the student.

Each padlock needs to have a colour that corresponds to the matching key that will unlock it, i.e. put a red mark on the lock and red on all 3 of the keys that unlock that padlock. Do a different colour for each padlock so that it is quicker for you to unlock your box during lectures, and to ensure that you do not damage the lock.

The student needs to submit 1 set of keys (that have been colour coded) for each padlock with a plastic key tag with their name and surname written clearly on it so that we know whose keys they are.

The student should also submit another set of 2 keys per padlock (that have been colour coded) with a lastic key tag with their name and surname written clearly on it so that we know whose keys they are. These keys will be locked in the office in case the student loses theirs or leaves them at home accidentally on a day when they have practical classes.
