PART-TIME COURSES
SEWAFRICA offers a number of options for individuals wanting to enter the fashion industry.
This page only offers an outline of the Saturday courses. If you wish to find more detailed information, please click on the links or alternatively go onto the dedicated web page to download application forms and schedules.
The full-time courses run Monday to Friday with face to face contact hours each day. The hours preceding or following the contact time may be used by learners to complete prescribed tasks and activities or continue with supplementary enrichment exercises that complement the course offered at SEWAFRICA.
There are two full-time courses available, each offering a range of skills depending on the student’s level of education and requirements.
Pattern Making
In this course, you will learn how to make your own patterns. There is no sewing taught here.
You need to be able to sew to do this course. This course takes 30 Saturdays and runs from February to October. The course starts in February of each year.
Sewing Course - Domestic
It takes 6 Saturdays to complete.
It costs R1,920 which includes the notes, fabrics and patterns needed, free use of our sewing machines and a free kit.
You will learn how to use a domestic sewing machine and use these machines to make samples of basic components of garments e.g. buttonholes and sleeves. We provide the free kit which has scissors, needles, tape measure, etc, as well as the fabric, patterns and threads needed to make your samples.
MODULAR COURSES DOMESTIC MACHINE
If you have done the Basic Sewing course you can choose some or all of the modular courses. All sewing courses include a free kit with all the materials that you will need to make the garment.
Each course includes a free kit with all the materials that you will need to make the garment. Complete 6 courses and get the 7th course free (Ts and Cs Apply).
You can choose from the following courses:
- Skirt 3 Saturdays @ R960
- Shirt 4 Saturdays @ R1,260
- Trousers 5 Saturdays @ R1,620
- Basic Jacket 5 Saturdays @ R1,600
- Wedding dress with a corset 10 Saturdays @ R3,190
- Graduation Gown 6 Saturdays @ R2,020
Sewing Course - Industrial
This course is for people who have never used an industrial sewing machine. It is run in the same format as the Domestic Machine Basic Sewing Course
The course costs R1,970 and includes a free kit with all the materials that you will need to complete the course
When you have done the Basic Industrial Sewing course you can choose some or all of the following courses:
MODULAR COURSES
Bedding & Cushions 5 Saturdays @ R1,900
You will learn how to make a fitted sheet, duvet cover, comforter and a pillowcase.
Curtains 5 Saturdays @ R1,660
You will make samples of a scalloped and smocked curtains
